BAD TELEPHONES
Sir Being in a hurry to telephone a friend the other day, I dashed into one of the many telephone booths in front of the chief post office. My luck was out. The first machine was not working'. I tried the next booth. That was out of order, too. But my patience could not stand the strain when I found a third telephone also on the sick list, and I had some very unprintable things to say about the Post and Telegraph Department. I know that others have had the same experience. Surely, sir, the department can check these boxes every day. The service is said to be overstaffed, but it would appear that there is a dearth of telephone adjusters. The department should show its boasted intention to “render public service’* in a more practical form than mere words. IRRITATED.
