CIVIC
“EMBARRASSING MOMENTS” Packed' end to end with laughter,' “Embarrassing Moments,” Universal comedy starring Reginald Denny, continues its success at the Civic. It is a dialogue picture. Denny, as the imaginary "trial husband” of a girl whom he has never before seen, gives one of the best performances of his distinguished funmaking career. Denny throws himself into his part with an energy and vivacity that keep things moving at top speed during every moment of the action. Merna Kennedy sees that the picture is provided with plenty of romance. It is Merna, newly returned from the big city, who is the cause of all the excitement. "Embarrassing Moments” is a sterling example of what can be accomplished with a bright, clean story produced in a swift and direct manner. The effect of its naturally mirth-provoking situations is materially heightened by the unceasing speed of the action. The first half of the programme with its musical and dancing attractions is easily the best yet presented at the Civic. Ered Scholl plays a selection of Neapolitan airs and a humorous sketch, featuring the popular song, “Honey.” The stage presentation by Ted Henkel is notable not only for the polished work of the musicians but for clever ballet work and gorgeous costuming. There are also shorter films, one of which is accompanied by Fred Scholl. The motion pictures showing the successful attempt by the Australian motorist, “Wizard” Smith, to break the world’s ten-mile speed record were screened at the Civic last evening, in conjunction with the personal appearance of Mr. “Wizard” Smith and Mr. Don Harkness.
