CORNWELL CUP TRIALS
The Manukau Yacht <£Jub is finding great difficulty in selectmg its representatives for the Cornwell Cup conicst, the boys available being surprisingly evenly matched. During the week-end no fewer than five trials were held with different boats, and specially teamed crews, and the results baffled the selectors, Messrs. Belcher, Young and Fletcher, who have resolved that further trials must be held. These will probably take place next Thursday. The selected crew will make an appearance at the Auckland Regatta on January 29, and in the Takapua Regatta next Saturday, so that it may gain experience in outside events. Supporters of the club are generously contributing to a fund to have Manukau represented at the Cornwell Cup championships. The trial races just held were won thus: —First race, Mclntosh and Hosking, in Tuatea; second race, Andrews and Rose. Norwilson: third race, Grant and Baker, Norwilson; fourth race, Grant and Baker, Tuatea: fifth race, Andrews and McIntosh, Tuatea. The selectors’ task now is to get a pair from Grant (skip) and Baker and Andrews (skip) and Mclntosh. The club has high hopes of being the next winner of the cup, and is to be congratulated on the careful way the Takapuna class has been ■nursed for the last two years on the western harbour.
