RENOVATING SCHOOL
REPAIRING DAMAGE BY EARTHQUAKE PROGRESS AT WANGANUI ■Fro?n Our Otcn Cot'rcspondcnt WANGANUI, Saturday. Tlie demolition of the top storey of the Wanganui Technical College, which was damaged in the earthquake, has been completed and the finishing of the lower half almost done. Aesthetically the renovated building is far more attractive than the old barrack-like structure. But from the point of view of accommodation it leaves much to be desired. Four new' class-rooms are required to house pupils, and their provision is being considered by the Minister of Education, the Hon. H. Atmore. The necessity for a new hostel for boarders at the Technical College w as also discussed with the Minister during his visit to Wanganui this week. It was explained that there was a probability of the college board obtaining 14 acres from the City Council at a low rental. The fact that the erection of large buildings in or near the city would relieve local unemployment to a certain extent is a big point in favour of an early start on its commencement.
