PRAYER-BOOK BURNED

DEMONSTRATORS RESENT USE OF NEW MANUAL STATE ASKED TO ACT United P. A. —By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Sunday, Following protests against the use of the 192 S Prayer Book in Exeter Cathedral, more than 100 people marched in a procession to the cathedral carrying banners which appealed to the Government to restrain the bishops from introducing ail illegal and unscriptural prayer book. A large crowd witnessed a copy of the 192 S book soaked in petrol and burned when the cathedral closed. The 1928 Prayer Book, to which exception was taken, is the revised Anglican Prayer Book, over which a controversy raged throughout the nation early in last year. The book, after being passed by the House of Lords, was rejected by the House of Commons. Since then many of the clergy have used the new book in defiance of Parliament. It is in use in a number of Anglican churches in New Zealand and the other Dominions.
