B AN at BIRKENHEAD NO CHANGE IN DECISION \il tbo seating accommodation was occupied at the Couucil Chambers, j Birkenhead, last evening, when a j large deputation waited on the coun- : ~jl beaded by Mr. W. Rout, represent- ; „ the Labour Party and the rate- I Mo-ers o f B rkenhead. to urge the otined t 0 reconsider its action in not UTniine Mr. L. Donahue a motor-car omnitus licence tor his taxi. j Cr J. Kerruish moved, and Cr. W. ; „ uiirlow seconded, that the applica- | tion for renewal of the licence should bo reconsidered. The chief argument of the deputa- j , a was that Mr. Donahue's car was j the only conveyance that met the midL„bt boat from town, and if he were oi granted a licence it would make it “ hardship tor ratepayers who came home on that boat in having to walk discussion took place daring which Cr. Kerruish, a strong advocate for the taxi, challenged Crs. Campbell to both resign and to try and regain their respective seats on the taxi Question, only. On the motion being put that the application for renewal of the licence should be reconsidered, the Mayor supported it with the mover and seconder. Crs H. A. Campbell, .1. C. Alexander R. R. Dayman. A. G. Jasper and l R L. Moller maintained that it was iii tie best interests of Birkenhead that the motor-car service running in opposition to the legitimate bus service should be terminated. The smaller car took sufficient of the revenue to menace the continuance of an adequate passenger omnibus service The motion was defeated. The Blue Star motor service gave an undertaking to rearrange its timetable so that all boats would be met if necessan r up to the last boat at midnight.
