FIRST GERMAN TANKER

MITTELMEER AT AUCKLAND The first German oil tanker to visit Auckland, the Mittelmeer, was an interestoing arrival today. Heavily laden with bulk oil and with a considerable sea growth on its plates, the Mittelmeer was four hours coming from Tiri to Western Wharf, where it berthed this afternoon. The vessel’s cargo was Taken on board at San Pedro, California, which was reached on November 29. After leaving there, the Mittelmeer was reported by cable to have returned for repairs, but the vessel merely anchored off the coast while waiting for repairs to be effected to some damaged cylinders. These had been taken ashore for the work. A calm trip was experienced across the Pacific except for two or three days off the New Zealand coast. After discharging at Auckland, Wellington, Sydney and Melbourne, the Mittelmeer will load oil at Borneo for the United Kingdom.
