PROGRESS OF MOTOR VESSELS RETURNS FOR QUARTER Reed. 10.20 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. Lloyd's Register of Shipping returns for the quarter ended December 31, shows that the total world tonnage under construction is 3,110,880, of which 1,560,254 Is being constructed in Great Britain. The latter represents an increase of 111,899 compared with last September, and 317,460 compared with December of 1928. The tonnage being constructed in Great Britain includes 161,000 for the Dominions. A total of 765,912 tons of motorships is being constructed in Great Britain, and 971,922 tons abroad. Continued progress in the employment of the internal combustion engine is indicated by the fact that 79 motor-ships are building in different parts of the world, each of S,OOO tons or over, compared with 28 steamers of such a size, including 15 motor-ships. Six steamers, each of 15,000 tons or over, are building.
