BAN 0N AUSTRALIAN SWIMMERS LlF'l'ED BIG RACE ARRANGED “'ith permision granted the Ausiralian swimmers. Noel Ryan and Owen Griffiths. to compete at the Mount Eden Club‘s carnival at the Tepid Baths tomorrow evening. a dispute in swimming has been avoided. The permission was not received in Auckland from Mr. J. Taylor. president of the Australian Swfmming l'nion. 'until late last evening. Mr. Taylor had previously been definite that. the Australians were not to compete again in New Zealand. but his union allowed the competition when it met yesterday in Sydney. The union still adheres firmly to its ruling. under threat of susfiension. if Ryan and Grimths do not leave New Zealand by the next Sydney boat. irom Auckland on Friday. This means t‘mt. Grifliths cannot take the holiday at Mount Cook olfered by the New Zealand Swimming Council, although Ryan had. through business reasons, already decided to return. Auckland will now see one of the most important swimming races arranged in New Zealand. Ryan, who is Australian distance champion. and (:rifllths. New South “'ales champion over 220 yards. are to race in a 220 yards event with Gordon Bridson, New Zealand title and record holder. and D. P. Lindsay. who represented New Zealand at the Olympic Games. Ih‘idson‘s best time. 2m 26 1—53. is a second better than Grlfliths's time in fresh water at Christchurch. in a 100 yards race. Ryan and Grif--I‘lth will meet Bridson, the Auckland champion. J. Enwright, R. tie Loree and A. W. Raper. _
