At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, the agent of the A.A.A. advised that the corners on the Kaimai Koad had been sign-posted. A deputation wa.s appointed to ask the Borough Council that the triangle De beautified by placing a rock garden in the centre. Mr. C. 13. Macmillan, M.P., is to be asked to use his endeavours in getting a free grant for the Omanawa Road. The chamber, having reached its 2uth anniversary, the event is to be celebrated by a dinner. The Railway Department’s attention is to be drawn to the dangerous levelcrossing leading to both wharves and requested, to have wig-wag signals erected. The failure of the Government Publicity Department to advertise the aeep-sea fishing at Mayor Island is to be brought under the notice of the officer-in- charge. Messrs. W. Paterson, R. Mann and T. Hall were appointed delegates to attend a conference of representatives from the Local Bodies a.nd Citizen’s Committee to consider establishing an air port. Mr. G. T. Wright, the past-president, tendered his resignation, as he is about to leave the district. The resignation was accepted with regret, and the secretary was .instructed to convey to Mr. TV right thfle chamber’s appreciation of his services to the town and the chamber. The Mayor, Mr. B. C. Robbins, is in receipt of a letter from Commander G. M. Robertson, notifying that H.M.S. Veronica will arrive at Tauranga on February 5 and depart on Februarv 9. A very old resident, Mr. W. Allely sen., celebrated his 95th birthday on Monday. Mr. Allely arrived from Ireland over 59 years ago, with the first batch of the late Mr. V. Stewart’s settlers. He has resided in Tauranga the whole of the time. Mr. ALlely is an invalid, but has all his. faculties well preserved.
