A THREE-DAY MATCH
M.C.C.’S GAME AGAINST AUCKLAND XI. ALTERATIONS MADE The match between the M.C.C. cricketers and Auckland next month will now be limited to three days, instead of the original four, and it will start on Saturday, February 8, instead of the Friday. These two alterations were made at last night’s meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Cricket Association, at the request of the English captain, A. H. 11. Gilligan, conveyed through the New Zealand Cricket Council. The reason for confining the match to three days is that the M.C.C. in England had notified Gilligan that the team was not to play four-day matches against major associations, and the council wished the Auckland Association to comply with the reqLiest. Gilligan also requested that the match be started on Saturday, February 8, instead of the Friday, to enable the touring team to spend an extra day at Rotorua. The two requests raised considerable discussion, especially in view, of the possible loss in gate takings. Finally, it was decided to agree to both the requests.
