(AUCKLAND dUTOMOEILH ASSOCIATION). During the wet weather over the holiday period motorists have had cause to appreciate the work of the Auckland Automobile Association. Its uniformed patrols have been scattered in various districts, particularly where bad reading conditions existed. In the lower north, patrols have been working night and day, and on one evening alone as many as five bogged cars were pulled out and enabled to resume their journeys. Hundreds of motorists encountering minor mechanical troubles have received just that little expert touch which has transformed a worrying trip to a pleasant drive. The agitation which the association carried on for so many years until the Government was induced to establish a Main Highways Board is now showing good results, and the wonderful improvement of the main routes throughout the Dominion is due to this early activities of the association. The Main Highways Board has carried out excellent work since its inception, and although motorists at times are inclined to be a little impatient, the change in the last few years reflects great credit on the engineers who are responsible for the work. During the closing of several routes in the Lower North, A.A.A. patrols will be constantly in touch, and the A.A.A. is arranging for the use of a tractor for its members to give assistance in one of the worst patches of the road in the case of very wet weather.
