AUSTRALIANS TOO FAST
ATHLETICS IN SOUTH MANY GOOD FINISHES Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The Australian professional runners, Lynch, Cooper and J. D. Fitt, made their first appearance at English Park, Christchurch, last evening when they met D. McLennan and G. Getson, the New Zealand champions. Cooper beat McLennan by inches in the 75yds in Bs, after a neck and neck race. McLennan broke three times before a good start was obtained, and then Cooper was away with a small advantage, which he held all the way.. In the 120yds McLennan was first out of the holes and led by inches at half way, when Cooper came up with a magnificent finish to win comfortably. Fitt was a little too good for Getson over both the 880yds and 1 mile, but these were excellent races and only three yards separated the runners in the mile event. The times were 1.57 2-5 and 4.29 4-5 respectively.
