ON TIPTOE
According to Sunbeams’ letters, the Little Thought seems to have been taking quite a number of trips to the Outside World, lately. Although I have looked about the flower-beds, under the little white daisies that dot the lawn, beneath speckled toad-stools, and in every other fairy hiding-place in which I think he might be resting, I can'never find him. Still, I haven’t given up hope yet and, if ever a new blossom bursts open, I’m going straight to see if the Little Thought is there, introducing it to the butterflies and bees, teaching it to dance to the wind’s music, and how to bow when the Fairy Queen visits it. And if ever I see a butterfly fluttering across the lawn, I’ll run across to it and look to see if the Little Thought is sitting *on its back. But does he visit Sunbeams on a butterfly? Perhaps he travels on a balloon, or in an airplane. Anyway, I’m almost sure that I’ll see him soon. —JUNE SHEARER, aged 9.
