BELINDA THE COW
Belinda the cow was exceedingly vain; She hated the sun and was timid of j rain. ‘Tm sure I’ll get freckled in this sunny place, And I’m certain that rain is not good for my face.” Thus said Belinda when sent to a farm. Where her fads and her fancies caused much alarm. "I never eat turnips, I will not eat peas! Pass me a plateful of buttercups, please!” And one day she said, “I think I will go And enter myself in the cow beauty show.” But when she arrived there, Belinda was late. ‘‘Your luck is all out,” said the man at the gate, And then he felt sorry; his eyes opened wide, For Belinda the cow, she sat down and cried! So he gave her two shillings and told her to get A small looking-glass and a manicure set . . . If you see her parading in paddocks, please bow To Belinda, the wonderful, beautiful cow. —Gloria Rawlinson, aged 11.
