JOLLY PARTY TO CELEBRATE COMING-OF-AGE
PAPAKURA GATHERING On Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. M. Jones, of Albert Street, Papakura, gave a delightful little party in honour of the twenty-first birthday of their eldest son, Mr. Raymond Mark Jones. The large dining-room had been delightfully arranged with streamers and flowers, and an enjoyable evening was spent in games and dancing. Mrs. Jones received the guests in a frock of figured crepe de chine. Miss Hona Jones was wearing a frock of pale salmon pink silk. Among those present were: Mrs. A. J. Hill (New Lynn), who wore navy blue georgette, with coffee trimmings; Mrs. ft. Bilby (Wellington), blue figured silk rayon; Miss Grace JBilby (Wellington), brown georgette, with floral trimmings; Mrs. C. Johnston (Point Chevalier), coffee georgette and lace trimmings; Miss Eunice Bennett (Manurewa), shot silk taffeta; Miss Phyllis Bennett (Manurewa), cream silk frock; Miss Marcia Bennett, green silk rayon: Miss Gladys Zellman (Hawera), figured silk rayon; Miss Ngare Zellman (Hawera), white silk; Miss Grace Bodle (Manurewa), rose pink rayon; Miss Lola Bodle (Manurewa), white silk.
KING COUNTRY JOTTINGS The Rev. Mr. Boyt, of Taumarunui, gave his farewell service at Kaitoke on Sunday. Mr. Boyt, who has been very popular with all who have known him, has been assisting the vicar, the Rev. Mr. Burley. There was a very large congregation, and later in the day the congregation entertained at afternoon tea, Mr. Boyt being presented with a memento of the occasion. Mrs. R. Cowern, who recently revisited Raurimu, was given the pleasant task of presenting tiio pupils’ prizes at the Sunday school which she had formerly conducted. During the course of her remarks, Mrs. Cowern expressed the pleasure it gave her to be among them all again, and complimented the present staff of the school, Mrs. Hill and Misses Murray and Lind, on the progress made. During her stay in the district Mrs. Cowern was the guest of Mrs. E. S. Murray. At her residence, Taumarunui, Mrs. Leydon entertained a large number of young people to a happy social evening. The programme comprised games and dancing, and the following items were given:—Pianoforte solo, Miss K. Leydon; song, Miss G. Gilbert: violin selection, Mrs. Bishop. The hostess provided a dainty supper, and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” terminated a delightful evening. * * * CRICKET CLUB DANCE The ICaitieke Cricket Club’s annual dance attracted a big attendance in spite of the unsettled weather, and was a very successful event. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs. C. Crocker and Messrs. F. Crocker and YVedde (2), extras being provided by Mrs. Hamilton and Mr. Karam. During an interlude Mr. H. C. Wedde expressed the Cricket Club’s appreciation of the widespread support given the dance. There was a large attendance at the dance following the Otangiwai Sports Club's picnic. Messrs. D. Beaton and F. Sowry caried out the M.C.’s duties, and the Matiere Orchestra played excellent music. Miss L. Bennett and Mr. Flavell won the lucky spot waltz, and Miss Johnson and Mr. E. Owens the Monte Carlo dance. Supper was prepared by Mesdames de Malmanche, Sandison, Dunn, Fry, Jorgensen, Bishop and Cribb.
