HEAVY GALES

LIMITED EXPRESS DELAYED IN MANAWATU HOUR AND A-HALF LATE Terrific gales in the Manawatu were responsible for the Limited express being an hour and a-half late in reaching Auckland this morning. The express* which reached Auckland at 10.55 am., ran into a howling gale between Koputaroa and Palmerston North last evening. The force of the wind and rain was the cause of the loss of 35 minutes on the run to Palmerston North.

After leaving the latter station the heavy head wind and rain continued, and Marton was reached almost naif an hour late. The storm continued until the express entered the Auckland section at Ohakune. The remainder of the delay was due to trouble at crossings.
