FOUND IN GUTTER
“‘ARMY’ CARES FOR VAGRANT Found lying in a gutter in a Newton street, John Joseph Herbert Rush was arrested and charged at the Police Court this morning with vagrancy. He pleaded guilty, and a remand was made for a week, Captain Holmes, of the Salvation Army, promising to see that accused was put on the train for Rotorua. “E dor.’t know' what to do with this man,” said Sub-Inspector McCarthy, when Rush, a hairdresser, aged 40, stepped into the dock. “He has just come out of gaol with a ticket for Rotorua Unfortunately he is subject to fits, and stayed in town until his ticket had lapsed. Mr. Campbell says tha.t be can have it extended.”
