Pigs sold readily at a special pig sale held at Pukekohe yesterday by Alfred Auckland and Sons, Ltd; 560 head ■were offered and the demand was keen. Heavy prime baconers made £3 17s to £4 4s; medium. £3 10s to £3 14s; light. £3 5s to £3 8s; heavy porkers. £2 16s to £3; medium £2 10s to £2 'l4s; light. £2 6s to £2 8s; small and unfinished. £1 18s to £2 3s: small stores, £1 16s to £2; best slips, 29s to 335: smaller, 22s to 255: good weaners. 18s to 21s: small and weedy, 9s to 345; sows In pig, 2tgns.
PUKEKOHE ONION CROP RAIN GIVING CONCERN From Our Own Correspondent PUKEKOHE, Today. Pukekohe onion growers are viewing with alarm the abnormal rainfall. From information given to a Sun man by one of the leading growers it appears that many crops are on the verge of being ruined. January is regarded as the dry month of the year, and growers look forward to harvesting their onion crops then. This season a large area is planted in onions, and if the weather does not improve growers will be seriously affected. AUCTION NOTES Palethorpe and Parkes will offer for sale by auction at their rooms, Winstone Buildings, tomorrow, Friday, at 11.30 a.m.. dwelling situated in Hauiti Road, off Great South Road, Otahuhu, containing four rooms, in addition to bathroom, hall and front porch. The property comprises two sections each 47ft x 150 ft. CHICAGO WHEAT Reed. 10 a.m. CHICAGO, Wednesday. Wheat.—March. 1 dollar 28 5-8 cents a bushel; May. 1 dollar 32* cents; July, 1 dollar S 3 cents. SYDNEY WOOL SALE SYDNEY, Wednesday. At the Sydney wool sales today, 11,7 71 bales were sold. There was very keen and general competition, prices being well up to late rates. Greasy Merino sold to 192 d. PAPAKURA STOCK SALE From Our Own Correspondent PAPAKURA. Wednesday. At the Loan and Mercantile Company’s Papakura stock sale held on Tuesday last there was a yarding of about 400 cattle, which sold readily at late rates. There was lively competition between local butchers. Fat steers brought from £ll 7s 6d to £l3; fat cows, from £8 10s to £lO 10s: others, £7 to £8 7s 6d; boners, from £2 10s to £5 15s; dairy cows, close to profit, brought up to £l2 10s; others, £9 to £11; Jersey cross heifers, £5 30s to £7 10s; smaller heifers, £4 to £5 ss; Shorthorn steer calves, £4 Is; heavy Shorthorn bulls, up to £11; others from £7 10s; beef sold at fully Westfield rates.
