NEW SCHOONER
NORTHERN COMPANY’S SHIP Good progress is being made with the construction of the new auxiliary schooner. which is being built by Mr. George Nicol at Freeman’s Bay, and which will be taken over by the Northern Steamship Company on completion, and it is expected that she will be ready for sea about the end of next month. Built on similar lines to the com pany's other auxiliary vessels, the new schooner is being made exceptionally strong to combat the severe conditions prevailing at times when bar harbours are being worked. She is the same size as the Ronaki, which was also built by Mr. Nicol. both vessels being 112 feet in length with a beam of 27 feet, and a draught of eight feet. She will Ire driven Lrv motor engines and will have a carrving capacity of about 300 tous. With the completion of the new schooner the Northern Company will be operating 10 auxiliary schooners, some of which are running in services formerly catered for by the company's steamers.
