BOY’S NARROW ESCAPE
CAR TOPPLES OVER BANK LANDS IN DEEP POOL Mr. C. W. Cox, of 6 Woodford Road, Mount Eden, and his wife and son, experienced a narrow escape when the motor-car in which they were travelling to Auckland, toppled over an embankment near Pokeno and fell into a pool of muddy water. The car was just passing another car on an embankment over a swamp, when it left the road, turned over and came to rest several feet below the road level. Mr. Cox jumped out uninjured and. standing waste-deep in the water managed to assist his wife, who was almost unconscious from a blow on the head, from the ear. He then found his son pinned beneath a seat under water and only after considerable difficulty was he able to extricate him. His condition was serious and artificial respiration had to be applied. Assistance was given by other motorists, who soon arrived on the scene. The car was only slightly damaged.
