SERVICES ON BEACH
CHILDREN’S MISSION PROGRAMME
Church services on beaches may become an organised church work in Auckland.
There were instances of the departure last summer, and arrangements have now been completed for the holding of a fortnight’s campaign at Brown’s Bay by the Children's Special Service Mission. Beginning on Friday next, brief beach services will be held at 10.45 a.m. The mission is also arranging games and competitions for children in the afternoons. On Saturday and Sunday evenings, open-air meetings will also be conducted.
The voluntary workers for the mission represent various denominations. Mr. A. G. Binnie and Miss F. Conway, who have been engaged in mission work in England and China respectively, will be in charge, and the Rev. A. Fear and Mrs. Fear, of the Edendale Baptist Church, will be house father and mother. On Friday next week, Missionary Day, the Rev. H. S. Conway, of the China Inland Mission, will be a visitor to the beach services; on January 22, when the birthday of the mission will be celebrated, the Rev. A. R. Jansen, of Louisville, United States, w-ill attend.
The Children’s Special Service Mission has been established in the United Kingdom for more than GO years, and the movement has extended to all parts of the world. Beach services are held regularly in the summers in South Africa. Australia. Canada and China. Inquiries are now being made from Devonport and St. Heliers. besides outside centres, including Napier and Nelson. The president of the mission is Bishop Taylor Smith, and the New Zealand secretary is Mr. Binnie.
