RIALTO AND REGENT, EPSOM
"Riley, the Cop,” the amusing com-edy-drama which heads the doublefeature programme now at the Rialto (Newmarket) and Regent (Epsom) Theatres, is the tale of a New York policeman who is sent to Germany to arrest an absconding American. He has many unusual adventures there, and finally falls in love with a beergarden waitress, played by Louise Fazenda. Farrell McDonald enacts the role of the Irish policeman. ‘‘"Win That Girl.” the second feature, stars the youthful players, Sue Carrol and Nick Stuart, in a story of football and love at a big American college.
EMPRESS, NEWTON “Syncopation,” a delightful talkie musical extravaganza, having as its background the Broadway stage, is now at the Empress Theatre, Newton. The tuneful music in which the film abounds is rendered by Fred Waring and his popular “Pennsylvanians.” Some of the enjoyable numbers are the theme song, “I’ll Always Be in Love With You,” “Tin Pan Parade,” and “Sweet Mystery of Life.” A full supporting programme of short talkie items is also being presented.
