ST. JAMES

“THE GOLDDIGGERS OF BROADWAY” “Gold Diggers of Broadway,” the Warner Brothers’ production in colour now showing at St. James’ Theatre, continues to prove extremely popular. The cast has been chosen with especial care, roles being assigned to several actors of first-class ability. Winnie Lightner, who is well-known as an actress of comedy parts, surpasses her previous successes in an extremely amusing portrayal of the character of Mabel, a New York chorus girl, and she is ably supported by Nancy Welford, Lilyan Tashman, Conway Tearle, Nick Lucas and a number of others. A special feature is the technicolour effect, which has been arranged with considerable skill. Many attractive vocal and dancing numbers have been incorporated into the picture, the stage settings giving particularly charming effects. An excellent supporting programme of shorter features is shown.
