NORTH ISLAND GAMES CONTINUE EXCITING MEN’S SINGLES From Our Own Correspondent WANGANUI. Today, t Glorious weather again greeted the j players at the North Island lawn tennis championships at Wanganui today. The men’s championship singles provided some exciting games between Malfroy and Wilson and Angus and 1 Liimpe. Malfroy ran away with the first set 6 —o. Wilson was over-hit- | ting and his overhead work, usually so safe, was finding the net. The second set went the same way and j finished 6—2. Lampe and Angus contested every stroke closely. Both put beautiful shots all over the court. In the first set Angus led 3 —l. Lampe drew level at the eighth game, and Angus won the last two. Lampe misdirected his sideline shots and found j the net in his short shots. In the last ! set Angus went ahead and lost only | one game. Charters put up a great fight against Stedman. both men playing polished J tennis, although Stedman appeared dis- j satisfied with his showing. Charters won the first set 6—l. In the socond set Stedman lost his direction on the sidelines often. In the women’s doubles Mrs. Smith and Miss Purcell beat Misses Ramsay and Hobson, 6—l, 6—l. The winners combined well, and were at no part I hurried. MALFROY DEFEATS TURNER ] YESTERDAY’S PLAY Special to THE SUN WANGANUI, Today. After a fine exhibition of tennis, C. E. Malfroy (Wellington) defeated A. K. Turner (Auckland) when the North Island Lawn Tennis championships were continued here yesterday. Another great duel resulted when Miss J. Ramsay (Auckland) met Mrs. W. J. Melody in the women’s singles. The match was characterised by hard cross-court driving. Results: MEN’S SINGLES First Round.—H. Lamb (Auckland) beat R.
