FOUL MURDER
GIRL’S BODY HORRIBLY TREATED SCOTLAND YARD BAFFLED LONDON, Tuesday. In spite of repeated adjournments of the inquest, and the fact that the police have taken 453 statements and interviewed more than 1,300 people, the authorities have failed to And a clue to the death of Miss Learoyd, who was murdered on August 25. The jury returned a verdict of wilful murder by a person or persons unknown. The evidence showed that the girl was subjected to terrible treatment after death, apparently by an unknown lover. The police are satisfied that robbery was not the motive for the crime. The terribly injured body of Miss Mary Learoyd, aged 3G, the daughter of a building contractor of llkley, Yorkshire, was found on some vacant land 100 yards from her home. A stocking was drawn tightly round her neck. A strong body of police at once scoured the district, and bloodhounds were used, but without avail.
