FRANCE BUILDS FRONTIER DEFENCE SCHEME GAS-PROOF SHELTERS Times Cable. Reed. 1 p.m. PARIS, Monday. The Chamber of Deputies adopted a frontier defence scheme providing for a complete organisation of a terrain, fully using its natural featui-es and extensively providing reinforced concrete shell, gas and bomb-proof shelters for the defenders. Mobile fortification parks are provided, equipped with material enabling the rapid construction of strong-posts at threatened points. The scheme also includes anti-aircraft defence.
The authorities do not believe that war has proved the uselessness of fortifications which they ' considered to have fallen owing to defective defence.
