Bowling Tournament Reaches Keen Stage
RINKS THINNING OUT INTER-SECTION PLAY Keenly contested and interesting games were again seen on the Carlton green this morning, when the second series of games in the inter-section play of the Auckland Bowling Centre’s Christmas tournament was commenced. Three rounds were played yesterday, and another three will be decided today. The game between the “two lifers,” E. Wright (Onehunga) and Carter (Carlton), this morning was very keenly contested. Yesterday Wright was playing particularly well and although he maintained the standard this morning he met strong opposition in Carter, who was playing on top form. A brilliant trailing shot on the 12th head which he nominated gave him 5 for the head. On the 15tli W.right got a good 4, but Carter was still 3 up. Wright drew' level on the 18th —19 all. On the next head Wright again took a single only for Carter to draw level again on the 20th. The last head was Carter’s, a well-placed shot giving hirh a couple from a very difficult position. Carter 22, Wright 20. Following are* the results of today’s play: Fifth round.—Cowell, Vella, E. Wright (Onehunga) 20, v. White, Lundon, Mitchell, Carter (Carlton) 22; Crawshaw, Koefoed, White, A.
