MUST HOT CARRY GUN
FINED £5 AFTER ARREST IN HOTEL Found drinking in an hotel, with a loaded revolver in his pocket, Richard Calvin Harris was arrested. This morning he appeared at the Police Court for sentence and was fined. £5, in default one month’s imprisonment. Harris, alias Murphy#, a carpenter, aged 28, pleaded guilty on Saturday to unlawfully carrying a five-chamber revolver and ammunition. He was then described by Chief-Detective Hammond as “a violent tempered man.” When the fine was imposed this morning an order was also made for confiscation of the revolver. Accused asked for time in which to pay the fine, adding that he liad a position at a coal mine in Taranaki and would report to the constable there and pay the fine to him if given his liberty. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., gave the man two weeks in which to find the money.
