The large drop in the shipments of beef is largely accounted for by the importation by New York buyers last season of 12,482 carcases, while, in this year, no imports were accredited to New York. London, Vancouver and Halifax also took more beef in the period in 1928. This season, London bought a considerably greater amount of mutton, but its imports of lamb lessened and had the most effect on the total returns. This season London imported more pork, but the position was not reflected in importations through Liverpool, Glasgow and Avonmouth. The drop in the imports of bags of boneless beef is attributable to the absence of imports through New York. October was the month in which the largest exportations were made. Killings for export at all works during the periods in 1928 and 1929 from October 1 to December 15 are also announced. The figures are:

SOUTH AMERICAN RETURNS A cablegram from the representative in Buenos Ayres of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board advising meat shipments from Argentina and Uruguay to the United Kingdom for the fortnight ended December 19 as follow: Quarters of chilled beef, 267,875; quarters of frozen beef, 2,750; carcases of frozen mutton, 69,455; carcases of frozen lamb, 206,700. The figures do not. include exports from Patagonia (Argentina), Chile or Etrazil. SEA TRAFFIC TESTS FROZEN MEAT INDUSTRY Special to THE SUN WELLINGTON, Today. On January 8, Dr. Ezer Griffiths, F.R.S., of England, who has been carrying out a scientific survey in connection with the New Zealand frozen meat trade, will leave for the United Kingdom on the Ruahine. During the voysige he will make important tests concerning the sea transit of the vessel’s meat cargo, and on reaching England he will continue his investigations. The London manager of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board will keep in close touch with the work in England. The Empire Marketing Board is co-operating with the Meat Board in the important researches. NEW DAIRY FACTORY CONSTRUCTION AT TAUPIRI Special to THE SUN MORRINSVILLE, Today.
