SPAT AT CONSTABLE

BELLIGERENT MAN FINED £2 “This man was under the influence of liquor. He stopped a constable and spat in his face,” said Sub-Inspector McCarthy when John Holmes was charged at the Police Court this morning with being disorderly while drunk in Queen Street. Holmes:* I did not spit in his face. The Sub-inspector: You did your very best. Holmes, a labourer, aged 49, pleaded guilty and the sub-inspector added that, after being remonstrated with, he had wanted to fight everybody within reach.

“We can’t have the police treated this way,” commented Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., imposing a fine of £2, in default 14 days’ imprisonment. ,
