NO HOME, NO MONEY
SALVATIONISTS CARE FOR VAGRANT Tlie Salvation Army will take care of James Clarke, alias Allan, a vagrant who was found by a detective sitting in a Great South Road tramway shelter in the early hours of the morning. The man was said to have no money and no home. Clarke, a fireman, aged 49, was charged with being idle and disorderly, having insufficient visible means of support. “I was paid off only last Friday week when I drew £7,” he said. Acting-Detective Stevenson said he had found the man on the Great South Road at 1.15 this morning. He had said he had nowhere to sleep and no money. Staff-Captain Holmes assured the court that the man could go to the country almost immediately and would be taken care of in the Salvation Army home until his departure. He had been staying at the home, but had not arrived there last evening.
Chief-Detective Hammond: He has been before the court three times this year. His is a two-page list. Clarke was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. “ITI give him three months if he comes here again,” remarked Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.
