ASSISTED EMIGRANTS
END OF SYSTEM DEPLORED
LONDON, December 20
“The Times” deplores the possibility of the Big Brother movement being needed if assisted passages are no longer available. At the same time the paper says nobody who understands the present economic position in Australia quarrels with the general attitude of the Prime Minister, Mr. J. H. Scullin, though apparently he is not refusing aid in cases which help to reunite members of families.
“There is nothing to be gained* by pressing migrants on a country not ready to welcome them, and unable to offer remunerative employment,’’ adds “The Times.”
