PASSENGERS HURRIED ASHORE EARLY MORNING SCARE United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Heed. 9.25 a.m. SINGAPORE, Today. Fifty passengers were roused from sleep at 3 o’clock in the morning and ordered ashore, following an outbreak of lire on the liner President van Buren, which is making a round-the-world trip. The vessel was alongside the wharf at the time.

The fire originated in the boifer room, spread to the hold, and destroyed £9,000 worth of rubber. Another £6,000 worth was damaged by water.

The President yan Buren leaves for New York tomorrow.
