JAPAN’S DIET OPENS
EMPEROR ATTENDS WITH FULL CEREMONY Reed. 9 a.m. TOKYO, Thursday. The Emperor Hirohito, attired as a generalissimo and escorted by cavalry, proceeded to the House of Peers and personally read the rescript opening Parliament in full ceremony, in the presence of princes, diplomats and members of the Upper and Lower Houses. After the adoption of the replies to the Throne, the Diet adjourned till January 21.
