HOLIDAY ACCIDENTS
TRAPPED IN CAR PASSENGERS’ CLOSE CALL Special to TJitJ SI .V HAMILTON. Today. Three occupants of a motor-car that was involved in a collision at Rukuhia last evening had a narrow escape from serious injury. The car. which was driven by Mr. Peter Gillies Hansen, collided wiin another car, and then struck a telegraph post and overturned. The three occupants were trapped in the car, which had to be lifted by eight men before they could be released. Mr. Thomas William McWilliams, aged 22. a labourer, living at Huia Street, Fr&nkton, was unconscious. He was conveyed to the Waikato Hospital, where he soon recovered, and was found to be suffering from shock and a few facial cuts and bruises. His condition is not serious. The driver and Mr. Patrick Byrne, another passenger, were not injured. The windscreen and a wheel of the car were broken, and the mudguards were bent. As a result of the accident. part of the Rukuhia telephone service was dislocated. This morning Hansen was charged in the police Court with being intoxicated while in charge of a car ami was remanded till January R. Bail was allowed.
CAR ROLLS OVER BANK DRIVER SLIGHTLY HURT Press Association GISBORNE, Thursday. On Christmas Eve a car driven by Mr. Isaac Joseph Anderson, who was accompanied by his son and a friend, went over a bank on the Wharerata Road, between Napier and Gisborne, falling between 20 feet, and 30 feet. Mr. Anderson was admitted to hospital, but his injuries are not serious. DIRT TRACK RIDER HURT CRASH AT KILBIRNIE Press Association WELLINGTON. Today. V. Dinaldie, while riding at the Kilbirnie Stadium dirt-track meeting last evening, crashed into the fence and was thrown heavily to the ground. He was picked up in an unconscious condition and was taken to the hospital. His condition is serious. YOUTH SEVERELY INJURED MOTOR-CYCLE OVERTURNS As the result of a motor-cycle carrying two young men overturning in Mount St. John Avenue, Kpsom, early yesterday afternoon, the| pillion rider, Herbert Darwin, aged 17, suffered severe injuries to his head and concussion. Both men were thrown heavily on to the road, but the driver, Mr. John Frankham Bradley, of West Tamaki. escaped injury. The injured youth was taken to the Public Hospital. His condition is stated to be serious.
CAR SKIDS AND TURNS OVER SEVERAL PASSENGERS HURT Pi ess Association WAIROA, Today. A motor accident occurred last night on the Frasertown Road, when a car driven by Victor Drysdale skidded while passing another driven by his father. The son’s car somersaulted twice, throwing its occupants out. All were badly cut and bruised, and Miss R. Drysdale received a broken collarbone. They were all sent to hospital. The car was totally wrecked.
MOTOR-CAR OVERTURNS COLLISION AT INTERSECTION A collision between a taxi-cab and a motor-car at the intersection of Balmoral and Dominion Roads yesterday afternoon resulted In the radiator of the taxi being damaged, and the rear wheel of the motor-car splintered and guards damaged. The motor-car was overturned, but the occupants escaped injury. COLLISION WITH POWER POLE Extensive damage was done to a five-seater sedan motor-car owned by Shorters Rental Cars, as the result of a collision with a power pole at the corner of Omahu and Remuera Roads early this morning. The chassis was badly buckled, the rear side wheel wrenched completely off, one of the front springs dislodged i and the mudguard on the left side bent- The driver, who was the only occupant of the car, escaped injury.
