CITY LIGHTS FAIL

SHORT INTERRUPTION FAULT AT SUB-STATION A mishap in the Beresford Street electric-power sub-station interrupted the programmes at several theatres and at the broadcasting station, IYA, for a few minutes about nine o’clock last evening. The lighting in parts of Karangahape Road and in the Epsom and Remuera districts was affected, and tramcars within these areas were held up. Music was played in some theatres during the power interruption, but in those equipped for talkies only, patrons had to wait quietly until the lights came on again. Candles were procured for use at the concert being given by the Westminster Glee Singers in the Town Hall, but before the programme could be continued the fault at the sub-station was rectified.
