F ,F ? ST . stake money in the Auckland Cup was £2,000, plus a handsome £IOO gold cup. Mr. R. J. Murphy, owner of the winner. Concentrate, will retain *£5 of course, but of the £2,000 all of it whispered “goodwii- a 'r nost immediately, for the Wellington sportsman completed an important deal.
•tt e ± Y ,as apparently impressed with the performances of Gesture particularly when the Chief Ruler filly romped home in the Foal Stakes, completing her fifth suecessive victory. Discussions with a view to the purchase of Gesture were entered into prior to the Foal Stakes, and the deal was not completed until later m the day. The price at which Gesture changed hands is said to be 2.000 guineas, so that Mr. R. J. Murphy’s racing transaction yesterday resulted in winning the £IOO gold cup, nothing in cash (less by way of tax!) and—Gesture. At Trentham eleven months ago the Hawke’s Bay sportsman, Mr. A. F. Symes, purchased Gesture for the munificent sum of 100 guineas. Since then the filly has won in stakes - Add this to the <£,ooo guineas received for the filly yesterday, subtract the purchase money, and the\profit per Gesture vvaa £3,355. It’s easy money. Probably Gesture will accompany Concentrate, Cimabue and comP ar »y to Australia in the autumn.
