MRS. J. BROWN
Mrs. Jane Brown (Heni Te Rau), aunt of Sir Maui Pomare, has died at Remuera. A daughter of a Taranaki. pioneer, Mr. John Nicholls, and Te Rau-o-Te Rangi, a chieftainess of the Ngatimutunga tribe, she traced relationship with the famous fighting chief Ruaparaha, and was one of the last with personal remembrance of him. She had also been a personal friend of Sir George Grey. MR. D. HENDERSON For nearly 50 years a resident of Ngaruawahia, Mr. David Henderson died at Horotiu yesterday at the age of SO. Born in North Ireland, Mr. Henderson came to New Zealand and commenced in business as a carpenter at Ngaruawahia. He built many of the first bridges over the Waikato. Mr. Henderson is survived by his wife and five sons and two daughters, Messrs. William Henderson (Auckland), Gordon Henderson (Gisborne), John Henderson (Okato), David Henderson (Aria), Gervain Henderson (Rotowaro), and Mesdames E. W. Jacobs (Horotiu) and C. F. Jacobs (Wellington). MRS. M. KNOX Mrs. M. Knox, widow of the late Mr. John Knox, manager of the National Bank of New Zealand at Te Aro, Wellington, died last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. Ivirker, Arney Road. Since the death of her husband eight years ago she had lived in Auckland. The funeral will take place in Wellington.
