EUROPEANS ENDANGERED IN CALCUTTA RUMOUR OF MURDER CALCUTTA, Dec. 19. There was an ugly scene in the European quarter of Calcutta. w T hen a threatening mob of 300 Kabuli moneylenders gathered in front of a European's' house in Theatre Road, as a result of an unfounded rumour that a Kabuli money-lender had been murdered in It.

In no time carriages arrived from all parts, some from great distances, the rumours having spread throughout the bazaars.

The European inmates were compelled to take refuge on the upper floor. Police reinforcements were necessary before the mob was dispersed.
