GOVERNMENT TO PROTECT PUBLIC
LONDON, Tuesday,
The President of the Board of Trade, Mr. W. Graham, stated in the House of Commons that the committee stage of the Coal Mines Bill would be undertaken as early as possible after the recess. A clause would be inserted to appoint commissioners to frame schemes of amalganaation. The Government adhered to the belief that statements regarding a large increase in coal prices were unfounded. Nevertheless it would establish a Consumers’ Council covering the , main necessities of life, namely, food j and fuel. As to these it would take effective steps to protect the public.
