SMASH AT CROSSING

MOTORIST KILLED WIFE LITTLE HURT Press Association INVERCARGILL, Wednesday. A fatal accident occurred at a. level railway crossing at West Plains at about 6.50 p.m. yesterday, Mr. .Alexander Robert Nicol, chiropractor, of Invercargill, accompanied by his wife, was driving a car along the West Plains Road, toward Invercargill, and at a crossing at West Plains he came into collision with the Kingston train. The car was thrown on to a cattle stop, a distance of 30 feet. Mr. Nicol received serious injuries about the head. He was unconscious when picked up by the enginedriver, who brought both Mr. Nicol and his wife to town.

Mr. Nicol, however, died at about 10.30 p.m. without regaining consciousness.

Mrs. Nicol, although slightly injured, and suffering from shock, was able to proceed to her home.
