BIG ENCAMPMENT
SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS HOLD CONVENTION CANVAS TOWN ERECTED Nearly 160 tents liave been erected on the Avondale Racecourse to accommodate between 500 and 600 members of the Seventh Lay Adventist Church who have come to Auckland for the annual convention, which begins tomorrow morning. The canvas town was constructed on Tuesday and delegates, who represent the 25 churches of the denomination in New Zealand, as well as several from Australia, are now well established in the tents.
All the campers will do their own cooking, and the meals will be of an exclusively vegetarian nature. This evening the first function of the camp will take place, when Pastor W. G. Turner, the president of the conference, will conduct an opening service, which will be followed by a lantern lecture. The convention will last until January 5, and each evening there will be public meetings and lectures, including a lecture on “The Triumph of the Cross in the South Sea Islands,” to be given by Pastor A. G. Stewart, and to be illustrated by a moving picture film. The days will be spent in devotional exercises, commencing from 6.30 a.m. Combined choral singing and a children’s demonstration service will be held on the concluding days of the convention.
