NEW REGENT
.“TWO BLACK CROWS” TOMORROW The current programme at the New Regent Theatre will have its final screening this evening. This includes the all-talking melodrama “The Last of Mrs. Cheyney,” starring Norma Shearer, from Frederick Lonsdale’s amusing play of English society, also the suppoi'ting programme of talkie items. From tomrrow the New Regent will present an entirely new programme, headed by the exceptional film “Why Bring That Up?” starring the Two Black Crows of gramophone fame. It is a story of stage life, introducing many “turns,” which have made these two artists famous. The dialogue is said to be excruciatingly funny and their voices record exceedingly well. Moran plays the part of George, and is shown in search of his partner, Charles (Mack). He is intoxicated in a speak-easy, which role gives play to that special draw, which gives many opportunities for rare humour. Finally they combine as a vaudeville team, and make good from the start and prepare to launch an ambitious show on Broadway. All sorts of complications arise when Betty, a friend of the partners in their days of adversity, appears at the stage door. The girl is asked to leave, and the partners quarrel, Mack being hit on the head with a jar by Betty's friend. After a good deal of estrangement between the two friends, it transpires that Betty and her accomplice have been fleecing them. Besides a feast of comedy in this picture, it is also punctuated with a number of excellent dance numbers.
“Shoo, Shoo, Boogie Boo,” whose title in itself promises to be a “catch,” and “Do I Know What I’m Doing?” are tow of the songs which will be welcomed. Supporting Moran and Mack are Evelyn Brent as Betty, and Harry Green as Irving. At every performance songs are sung by that popular “Whispering Baritone” Jack Lumsdaine.
A gorgeous Christmas pantomime, entitled “A Kiddies’ Cabaret,” has been arranged for the matinees every afternoon. It was presented for the first time today and was anuge success.
