CHRISTMAS YACHTING

ANNUAL OCEAN RACES ENTRIES AND HANDICAPS Entries closed last evening for the annual ocean yacht races to Russell and Tauranga. The races will start from Auckland on Tuesday evening next, December 24, from off the King’s Wharf. The Tauranga boats will be sent away at 7.15 and the Russell fleet at 7.30. Eight keel yachts and live mulletboats are going North and five keelers, tut no mullet-boats, to Tauranga. Entries and handicaps are as follow : To Russell.—Keel yachts: Aivki, scr; Thelma, scr; lorangi, 26m; Ida, 3h 50m; Windward, 4h 20m; Rangi, 4h 33m; Mahaki, 4h 40m; Janet, 5h 15m. Centreboard Boats. —Stariock, scr; Starlight, 15m; Omatere, 20s; Celox. 30m; Rakoa. 3h 30m. To Tauranga.—Keel yachts: NgaToa, scr; Heartsease, Hi 45 m; Queenie, jjb lom; Wairiki, 2h 50m; .Daisy, 4b

The course for the Russell race is trora starting line direct to the .finishing line between the Russell Wharf a.nd the whaler Hananui moored south. In the event of the boats finishing at night the line will be between a red kght on the F.ussell Wharf and the Hananui’s riding light. The course ff r the Tauranga race Is from starting i.ne direct to the finishing lino between the Blinker light and boat moored north. Should the race 3nish at night a light will be placed on the judge's boat. Mr. J. H. Frater will be starter for both races and will be assisted by Messrs. N. L. Macky, J. C. Hewson, G. E. Laycock and W. A. Wilkinson. Outboard motor-boats will also compete at the regattas. Miss Tamaki and Silvertown Kid have entered for the Tauranga events Jind the following for the Russell races: British Maid. Sea Horse, Blue Streak, Miss Akarana, Miss Arawa 11. and Ocean Mule
