SUMMER CAMPS

TREK TO RESORTS BEGINS FIXTURES ROUND AUCKLAND The picturesque settings of Hunua Fulls, Rangitoto and Waiheke Islands will be the location of several summer camps during the Christmas and New Year vacations. This morning saw the commencement of the first trek to the holiday resorts, when a number of boys left for Hunua Ranges to tne camp conducted by the I.M.C.A. Ideally situated on the banks of the Wairoa Stream, about 11 miles from Papakura, the camp will be mainly recreational. Reading and instructive taiks will also figure in the programme.

Hutments and tents at Brown’s Buy will accommodate 100 Bible Class students, who will go into camp on Christmas Hay and continue until January 3. Mornings will be devoted to study and afternoons to recreation. Mr. Brnest Bennett and Mrs. Dryland will have charge of the camp. Already a canvas town with 150 tents up, a portion of the Avondale racecourse will see an assemblage of between 500 and 600 campers, representing 26 chLirehes for the annual convention of the Seventh Hay Adventist Church, which commences on Boxing Hay and will extend until January 5. Daily devotional services will commence at 6.30 a.m., and public services will be held in the evening. A demonstration will be held during the concluding days of the convention. The summer school of the Workers’ Educational Association at Hunua Falls from December 26 to January 3, promises to create a new record. Lectures are to be given on “Pacific Affairs,” “Two Great Moderns—Shaw and Galsworthy” and “State and Industry.” Concerts will also be held. The health ca,mp for poor children conducted by the Auckland City Mission at Oneroa Beach, Waiheke Island, will see an assemblage of 60 children starting on December 27. After a fortnight’s holiday a similar numbei of youngsters will be given a treat at the seaside. Sister Pat will be in charge of the parties. /

Boy Scruts and Girl Guides camps will also start on Boxing Hay.
