GREY LYNN CINEMA

“The Terror,” as a stage play, has held the imagination of Londoners for over three years, and now Warner Brothers have made it into an alldialogue screen play, which in gruesomeness, shivers, shocks, and laughter, far exceeds the original.

May McAvoy plays the daughter of an aged doctor who keeps an ancient house as a “rest cure.” She is the especial object of the attacks of “The Terror,” and is tossed between knives, shadowy clutching hands, weird suitors, and panic-stricken ladies, the most uproariously ludicrous of whom is Louise Fazenda. Edward Everett Horton plays the part of a tippling and terrified lover. This big talkie heads the programme at the Grey Lynn Cinema.

“THE YELLOW LILY” AT LYRIC

Hungarian court life in the days when Emperor Charles held sway in Europe’s most brilliant and colourful court forms the background for Billie Dove’s latest starring vehicle, “The Yellow Lily,” now at the Lyric Theatre. The story goes behind the scenes of royal life in Budapest only a few yea.rs ago, and mingles intimate romance with its exotic colour and intrigue. It was adapted from Lajos Biro’s famous Hungarian play, also called “The Yellow Lily.” Clive Brook plays opposite Miss Dove in this elaborate First National picture.

A bright comedy-drama by Bebe Daniels, sntitled “Swim, Girl, Swim,” will also be shown.
