CONSIDERABLE activity is registered in insurance shares, New Zealand and South British being most prominent. Debentures continue to attract investors aud prices remain high.
Business on the Auckland Market Transactions on the Auckland market over the past 24 hours included: Yesterday afternoon.—Commercial Hank of Australia (ord.), £1 5s 7d; Union Bank of Australia, £l3 Is 6d; Now Zealand Insurance, £2 4s 6d; tfouth British Insurance, £3 2s; Newton King (pref.), 12. s Gd; N.Z. Breweries, £4 7s 3d; N.Z. Farmers’ Fertiliser, £ 1 2s Gd. Reported Sale. —New Zealand Breweries, Ltd., 87s. At the morning’s call. —National Bank of Australasia. £l6; Ohinemuri Gold and Silver, 8s 3d. • * # Wfarket at Midday Bank shares continued to sell freely, and in several cases are inclined to improve. Commercial of Australia are slightly firmer. Xational of Xew Zealand a xe steady. Xational of Australasia (paid) sold this morning at £l6, the cont. issue being also firm. Bank of Xew Zealand have buyers at 5Ss, but fail to attract sellers. Union of Australia are unchanged. In the loan and agency section, Dalgcty are in demand at £l2 15s. Goldbrough Mort have steady buyers at 35s ‘Jd, sellers now appearing at 38s. Newton King (pref.) changed hands last evening at 12s Gd. Xew Zealand and River Plate remain steady. North Auckland Farmers are asked for. Brewery shares are in demand at present. Many inquiries come forward for Innes and Co. Xew Zealand remain unchanged. Staples have steady buyers at 52s 6d, sellers holding for 53s 6d. * • * Mine Manager's Report Walhl.—The mine superintendent reports as follow for the period ended October 19: Week's north-west Cross-
cut was commenced at a point 225 feet north-east of Cow south-east crosscut. At 34 feet in the north section of Empire lode was picked up and its course followed for five feet. A vein was discovered branching off west from the north section at 34 feet in, which has been followed 23* feet. The width varied from two to three feet and assay value to 22 feet is 31s 7d a ton. This vein crosses the boundarv into the Waihi area at 12 feet west. Xo. 11 level, Edward lode: The crosscut eastward from Cod winze was continued to 30 feet, where the east wall \\ as met. The last lour feet carries an assay value of 22s 9d a ton. The drive northward from Cod crosscut was continued to 3o feet, the average assay value for this distance being 25s 7d a ton. Xo. 9 level. Empire lode, west of Xo. 4 shaft crosscut. The drive along the south wall was continued to 177 J®® 4 -. Ti. 1 .? , average assay value from li!7 to 173 feet is 37s a ton. A crosscut at 143 feet exposed 25 feet of reef, and measuring from the south wall the first 14 1-3 feet assayed S2s a ton. and the last 10 2-3 feet 4s 6d a ton The latter portion of the reef is calcite. The north wall Is not exposed. No. 8 level, north section of Empire lode east of Alexandra crosscut. Driving was continued on the course of the lode, which is small and of very low value, the total distance now being 75 feet.
