Women the World Over
AT SCOTLAND YARD Women police have been employed for some time by Scotland Yard, but it is only recently that women detectives have been included ollicially on the staff, though the services of female investigators have long been used in dealing with certain cases. Among the women lately appointed as detectives is Mrs. K. Stevens, who for many years has been unofficially associated with Scotland Yard, dealing chiefly with matters concerning the white slave traffic. AT SINGAPORE The distinction of being the only woman doctor or. the staff of the Singapore General Hospital is held by Dr. Winstedt. She is a Government servant, and the i>osition carries with it a substantial salary, also entitling the holder to a comfortable residence at a nominal rent. Her husband—also Dr. Winstedt —is director of education in the Straits Settlements, and principal of Raffles College at Singapore.
