Leaders Meet Tomorrow

ELLERSLIE AND GREEN LANE Fourth Suburban Games THE ulasli between the competition leaders, Green Lane and Ellerslie, who are level in championship points, will he the focal-point of interest in the fourth series of Suburban Association matches commencing at the Domain tomorrow. The rain during the week may have made the wickets slightly yielding, but this should not detract from some bright hatting performances.

The main contest is likely to provoke the keenest interest, not only among followers, but in the opposing teams. Both elevens have shown good form in their earlier matches, and Ellerslie’s batting performance last Saturday, if repeated, will keep Green Lane very busy in the field. The match is likely to i*esolve into a contest between Green Lane’s bowling and Ellerslie’s batting strength. A keen struggle is expected in the Albion-Ponsonby match, though the Ponies’ batting strength is likely to set their opponents a big hurdle. Harbour Board should have no difficulty in running up a big score against W.Y.M.1., and emerging victorious. MOT ACCEPTABLE INTERNATIONAL RUGBY BOARD’S CONDITIONS AUCKLAND UNION’S OPINION At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby Union, Mr. H. Frost presiding, consideration was given to the resolution of the International Rugby Board dealing with the question of the Dominions being represented in the control of the game. This resolution, which has been circulated by the New Zealand Rugby Union among its affiliated unions for their opinions, is as follows: — “As a condition precedent to the consideration of the creation of a consultative body under the supreme control of the International Board, all Dominion unions should agree to adopt the laws of the game as framed by this board.” CONSULTATIVE BODY NOT WANTED After the matter had been dealt with in detail, the following resolution was passed:—“lt would appear* that thei-e is some misunderstanding or misconception in connection with the resolution of last March passed by the International Board. So far as this union is aware, the New Zealand Rugby Football Union has not made application for, nor does it desire the creation of a consultative body under the control of the International Board. We understand the request made by New Zealand was that during the visit of the British team here next year opportunity should be taken to convene a conference of as many delegates as possible of Jrtugby countries, one of the objects of which should be the consideration of the formation of an Imperial Rugby Board, on which our Dominion in common with each of the other Rugby Unions should have separate i-epresentation.

“In the opinion of this union, it is not conceivable or reasonable that there should be any conditions precedent to the holding of such a conference, more especially as the Rugby Football Union has already granted dispensation in various ways to ovei’seas unions to meet local conditions. It must be apparent it would be quite futile to hold any conference with beneficial results under restrictions such as those outlined in the International Board resolution. This union is of opinion that there should be a supreme controlling body in the nature of an Imperial Board, on which all Dominion Unions should have direct representation, and considers the resolution of the International Board to be entirely unacceptable to Rugby Unions in this Dominion.” It was decided to donate £lO 10s to the Cenotaph Fund.
